These photographic works derive from the They have a name for girls like me. video project. I refer to them as “flat films” because they use frames of video, laid out in two-dimensional grids. Each piece represents a few seconds of time from one of the films, usually depicting the Julie character and her love interest. I first created these works to exhibit with the video gallery spaces, such as the Self(ie) Portraits exhibition at Upfor Gallery in 2014, which included a catalog for the group show.
