Cynthia Nelson (Ruby Falls, Retsin, Cynthia Nelson Band) is a 90s idie rock icon to me. I listened to Ruby Falls and Retsin with my high school music buddies in the Hudson Valley in the 90s and responded to the poetry, the sound, the sweetness and ferocity. We met in real life in Portland in the 2010s and we’ve been talking about books and music and art and film ever since. I adore her. When she invited me to create a video for a song on her album, For Days, I was delighted. I listened to the album several times and I loved the driving pop sound of “Blank Cassette.” I created this video using footage from one of Cynthia’s own Ruby Falls tour videos, documentation from a September 1993 tour, shot by Andrew Bordwin and edited by Suki Hawley.
