In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Portland’s Gino Kline invited artists to create artworks using BINGO cards that she provided. Then Kline ran an online auction, the Virtual Bingo Art Party Fundraiser, to raise funds for The Bail Project and the Black United Fund of Oregon. I contributed this video, Bingo Cheetah, to the online event. Viewers see a bingo card, a pair of hands, one hand holding a bingo dauber. The hand maniaclly stamps the bingo card eventually filling the entire card. With each stamp, more and more of an image is revealed until viewers witness a graceful cheetah loping across the card. At a time when my movements felt constricted, I was confined to my house, the cheetah represents a strength and expansiveness that I yearned for.
